ScholarshipsA-Z Accomplishments Timeline

  • We hosted a SA-Z Scholarship Advocacy Night, bringing together educators, students, and community members to write to local, state, and national scholarships challenging them to expand their eligibility to include Undocumented students
  • Engaged 200+ educators through community outreach events and workshops
  • We rebuilt our organization’s website to make our resources more accessible to immigrant youth and educators across the country
  • We hired a Student Support Lead to facilitate year-round student programming for Arizona immigrant youth
  • We recruited six new SA-Z board members, all of whom have ties to the immigrant community
  • Engaged 23 community members as WE ARE ISH fundraising accomplices to help us fundraise for the Immigrant Scholarship Hustle (ISH) program
  • Partnered with Regeneracion to refer Tucson immigrant families to another $106,000 in Covid-19 relief funds
  • Since March of 2020, we have distributed over $65,000 in Covid-19 relief funds to immigrant families in Tucson
  • We hired a new Executive Director who will lead our organizational fundraising efforts 
  • We hosted the 4th Immigrant Scholarship Hustle program virtually in Tucson and Phoenix, serving over 30 immigrant youth
  • Served over 50 immigrant youth through our 2019 Immigrant Scholarship Hustle Program (ISH) 
  • For the 2019 ISH cohort, each student applied for 7 scholarships and earned over $23,000 in scholarships, on average
  • Engaged over 50 educators in Tucson through our Educators Committee programming
  • Partnered with UA Thrive Center, UA Immigrant Student Resource Center, UA WGRC, Tucson High Magnet School to carry out programming to support Immigrant youth
  • Supported over 60 immigrant youth with renewing their DACA, providing funds for 11 DACA recipients in Southern Arizona
  • Provided $5000 in scholarships to previous Tucson ISH scholars
  • Partnered with UA ISRC to host the 6th annual Educators Conference that served 80+ Educators
  • Completed 3 trainings to Pima Community College Educators around supporting immigrant youth
  • Engaged 22 community members in the launch of our Mosaic project to share the stories of individuals who participated in or worked with ScholarshipsA-Z
  • Partnered with Academic & Leadership Accelerator for Service (ALAS) to launch Immigrant Scholarship Hustle for 33 immigrant students in Tucson, AZ
  • Provided $18,315 in scholarships for DACA recipients to renew their applications (covered 37 DACA application fees)
  • Received $25,000 grant from Educators for Fair Consideration to establish SA-Z Mosaic project that uses storytelling to increase amount of scholarships offered to undocumented students
  • Renewed $10,000 in grants to develop leadership, organizing, and know your rights training sessions
  • Received $8,000 grant from Dorrance Family Fund to offer scholarships and programmatic support to Immigrant Scholarship Hustle
  • Trained 70 educators at 5th AZ Educators Conference on how to work with & for undocumented students
  • Trained 105 educators at 4th AZ Educators Conference (formerly AZ Dream Conference) on how to work with & for undocumented students 
  • Renewed $13,000 in grants to develop leadership, organizing, and know your rights training sessions
  • Partnered with Academic & Leadership Accelerator for Service (ALAS) to launch Immigrant Scholarship Hustle for over 49 immigrant students in Phoenix, AZ
  • Partnered with three Tucson-based organizations to offer over $10,890 in scholarships for DACA recipients to renew their applications (covered 22 DACA application fees)
  • 3 former members of leadership team graduated from universities
  • Presented leadership training events in New Mexico and Washington, D.C.
  • Worked with United We Dream to participated in actions and discussions with over 1,000 youth to organize for the protection of undocumented youth and families
  • Offered 10 DACA and Know Your Rights clinics to connect undocumented students and youth with legal resources in Tucson and Nogales, AZ
  • Co-created an Immigrant Student Resource Center at the University of Arizona to support enrolled/incoming immigrant students
