Our Mission [what we do]:

ScholarshipsA-Z’s Educator Committee is a community of immigrant and accomplice educators that create a space to share knowledge, challenge and support one another, and advocate for, and alongside, Undocumented youth.

Our Vision [what we want to accomplish]:

As members of the ScholarshipsA-Z’s Educators Committee, we strive for all schools to be inclusive places for all youth, including Undocumented youth who hold many intersecting identities. We prioirtize the voice of Undocumented youth, while also recongizing that Undocumened youth must often teach their own educators how to better support them as students. While we follow the direction of Undocumented youth and educators, we also ask accomplices to grow the confidence to support all students through community and self-education. We believe schools are made stronger when educators and students are empowered to speak up about inequities together. It is fundamental to our work, that we challenge the traditional student/teacher power dynamic.

Our Story

In 2014 ScholarshipsA-Z held our first full-day conference for educators committed to learning more from Undocumented youth and accomplices on how to create school campuses that are liberating for all students, regardless of immigration status. Shortly after the first Educators Conference, ScholarshipsA-Z’s Educators Committee was born out of a desire of educators to remain in conversation with each other throughout the year. Since its inception the committee has been a space for Tucson educators from k-12 schools, community colleges, universities, and community organizations to meet regularly throughout the school year.

We encourage educators to help, empower, and guide Undocumented students to navigate high school and higher education. The Committee also serves as a support space for Undocumented educators and accomplice educators who are actively working to create institutional change within their schools. Sometimes our educators are supported within their schools and districts, and sometimes they are not; regardless of institutional support, the ScholarshipsA-Z Educators Committee is always a space that puts students, families, and educators first over outdated and inequitable school systems
